Barnes & Noble Book Fair

Did you miss the Barnes & Noble Book Fair this past weekend? Don’t worry! There is still time to support our teachers with your purchase! Here are TWO SIMPLE WAYS:

1. Shop online between now and November 24th using the code on the voucher to make sure proceeds from your purchase go toward Albert Hill. You can even share this
voucher code with family and friends to make sure their purchases count!

2. Purchase a book (or two) online from the teacher wish list. You can have it sent directly to the
school (3400 Patterson Ave, Richmond, VA 23221) with the name of the teacher. Check the aforementioned link for an updated teacher wish list. If you purchase a book, just add the quantity in the “purchased” column.

Social Media Safety and Privacy

Per Ms. Sears' request I've put together a list of links to general social media safety, how-to's on social media privacy settings, and guides to cell phone parental controls. Ms. Sears and the staff at AHMS strongly encourage the students and parents of our school to review the information contained within the links below. It is our hope that parents and students will review this information together and start a dialogue on digital citizenship and the importance it plays in social media today. We also strongly encourage our parents and students to review the Student Code of Responsible Ethics (SCORE) in regard to acceptable use of phones and other private digital devices on school grounds.

The Art of Change - Free Summer Camp Opportunity for Girls

“The Art of Change” will teach girls, who are currently in grades 6-8, how to become socially and culturally competent global citizens. Yewande Austin (a 2017 President Barack Obama “Lifetime Achievement Award” Honoree) will lead girls in a series of entrepreneurship workshops, STEAM and performing arts classes, and field trips while teaching them how to develop their own social business model with girls in another country! This multidisciplinary approach will show students how to think more creatively about solving real-world social issues. Are you ready to change the world? St. Catherine’s School will show you how!

Latin Ballet Dance Workshops at Albert Hill

From our Spanish teacher Ms. Midyette,
On Tuesday, May 2, professional dancers from the Latin Ballet will begin their dance program at Albert Hill called "Be Proud of Yourself!" The program consists of seven dance workshops and a final performance that "focus on the culture and history" related to dance and music, including reggaeton/hip hop, salsa, merengue, and cumbia.

In order to participate, please pick up a registration form in the main office, fill out both sides, sign it, and return it to Ms. Midyette in Room 303 by Thursday, April 27. Be sure to include the check for $30 made out to "Albert Hill Middle School." If you are unable to pay at this time, please contact Ms. Midyette so that she can find a teacher sponsor for your child.

Rehearsals will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school, and the final performance will be in the evening on Wednesday, May 24. All participants must be able to attend all seven workshops as well as the final performance in order to participate.

Please feel free to contact Ms. Midyette if you have any questions! - jmidyett@rvaschools.net
