Yearbook Ad Space For Sale

Greetings friendly neighbor!!

Hello, how are you?  We are students from Albert Hill Middle School and are writing to see if you would like to buy an ad in our yearbook.  The proceeds from these sales will help to benefit Albert Hill by helping to pay for supplies for events, such as incentive rallies for achievement and good citizenry.

We are offering four ad sizes:

1/8 page: $20.00

1/4 page:  $30.00

1/2 page: $45.00

Full page:  $80.00

Ads need to be purchased by March 30, 2015. The sooner, the better, as space is limited.  Checks, cash, and/or money orders are payable to Albert Hill Middle School.  They should be addressed to Albert Hill Middle School, c/o Ms. Rebecca D’Angelo, 3400 Patterson Avenue, Richmond, VA 23221. Please include desired ad size, and contact info, including email  so that we may email you an electronic receipt.  Please email art work to rdangelo@richmond.k12.va.us.  Be sure and write in the subject line “ad for yearbook”.  There are no specific ad specs, just approximate, and we can size from our end.  The book is roughly 8x12.

Albert Hill has a population of about 600-700 students, meaning at least 1400 adults, and many more relatives, and friends, will be seeing this yearbook and talking about it.

We appreciate your support and wish you the best in the coming holidays, and new year.

Best Regards!

Principal's Quarterly Message

Greetings Hill Families!

Welcome to Quarter 2.   Over the last three months, we’ve shared fond memories of Back-To-School Night, our first ever Art Carpet and Day Breaks, Lip Sync Battles, and Tiger Buck Mania.  Moreover, we’ve spent the first nine weeks catching up from the effects of summer slide and learning a variety of new and important things on our way to becoming college and career ready.  This was definitely a season of firsts.  As we take a quick moment to reflect, we are proud of our students and teachers for bringing great energy and enthusiasm to all of these experiences.  Now that we’ve all gotten a chance to get our feet wet and soak in what the new school year has to offer, it’s time readjust our focus and move with a greater sense of purpose and intent.  I’ve enjoyed watching your children adjust to their new surroundings, discover new relationships with members of our faculty and their peers, and deepen previously established ones.

Speaking of relationships, please join me in welcoming our new Assistant Principal, Ms. Cherita Jones!  She brings with her a diverse background that includes her former experience as a high school teacher and most recently a Dean of Students for Chesterfield County Public Schools.  Her keen awareness of student development, knowledge of high school expectations and learner readiness, and her desire to serve in this rewarding capacity make her a welcomed addition to our remarkable team.

Along with Ms. Jones, we also have four new teachers on board to serve students in our highest need population.  Please welcome Bryce Green, Cynthia Brown, Diana Prentiss, and Sonya Thompson-Davis to the Hill!  With so much to celebrate, I would be remiss if I failed to mention the tremendous blessing it has been to have Dr. Braxton serve our school community.  She has done so with great dignity and with the highest ethos of care.  She will be a tremendous loss for us, but we are forever grateful for her service to our students.

Now with a nearly complete team, we can most certainly get down to the business of improving student climate and moving our scores in a positive direction.  I could not be more fortunate to have this tremendous team working tirelessly on behalf of the students of Hill.

Here’s to a great second quarter!

Best,

Shante’

Girls Basketball: Albert Hill vs. MLK

Last Thursday afternoon, November 6, the girl's basketball team played their final home game of the season against Martin Luther King Middle School. It was a hard fought but ultimately tough one point loss at 27-26. A big thanks to Mr. Lovett and Newkirk for their support of the team as well as Mr. Ellegood coaching these ladies this year. Below are a few photos of the game courtesy of Mr. Bob Brown, grandfather of one of the members of the team.

This last image is actually from the previous game between Hill and MLK on October 21st but to quote Mr. Brown, "I think it shows the intensity of the rivalry between these two schools."

Learning about the Age of Exploration

Students in Ms. Lingle's sixth grade U.S. History I classes have been learning about the Age of Exploration recently. (SOL US.I4a) To reinforce what they've been learning, she found a board game that her classes played on Tuesday. In groups of five, each student took on the role of an explorer (Francisco Coronado, Robert de La Salle, Samuel de Champlain, King Henry the Navigator, and John Cabot) and facing the same types of challenges attempted to reach their destination first. Ms. Lingle said her students really enjoyed playing it and it gave them a much better sense of what these explorers faced as they set off to explore the New World.

A downloadable PDF of the board game can be found here. This nifty poster also provides some additional information on what it was like to be a sailor on board a ship during this time period.

2014-2015 Tardy Bell and Full Bell Schedule

Taken from the Albert Hill Facebook Page:

Attention to all!

TARDY BELL & FULL BELL SCHEDULE FOR 2014-2015 SCHOOL YEAR!

Please be aware of the tardy bell schedule change! The first bell rings at 7:55am and the tardy bell rings at 8:00am, NOT 8:05am!!! Attendance policies for RPS have changed as well, your child's tardies may add up to absences. Please plan accordingly!

7:40-7:55am: Student arrival and breakfast
7:55am: Student bell/locker break
8:00am: Tardy bell
8:00am-8:30am: Homeroom
8:34am-9:33am: 2nd period
9:37am-10:36am: 4th period
10:40am-11:38am: 6th period
11:42am-1:26am: 8th period and lunches
11:42am-12:12pm 6th grade lunch
12:16pm-12:46pm 7th grade lunch
12:50pm-1:20pm 8th grade lunch
1:20pm-1:26pm: 8th grade students return to 8th period
1:30pm-2:21pm: 10th period
2:25pm-2:40pm: Homeroom
2:40pm: Walker/pickup dismissal
2:45pm: Bus dismissal

Parents & guardians, thanks for helping us maximize instructional time for our students! Remember, with the new RPS attendance policy implemented this year, any five unexcused tardies or unexcused early dismissals count as a missed instructional day.

With the new class periods lasting 70 minutes instead of 90, being ten or fifteen minutes late (or leaving ten or fifteen minutes early) can really make a difference in your child's learning.

Details of the new RPS attendance policy can be found here:
